If you are shopping for dental insurance, determine not only what your budget will allow, but what coverage you expect to need as well. If you or your family members are likely to have more serious dental concerns, such as surgeries or dentures, be sure you price coverage that provides for that level of care. Otherwise, a less expensive policy to cover preventative care will likely be more appropriate.
Be aware that dental plans are a possible option to dental insurance. They are usually less expensive, but will often come with fewer benefits as well. An application and membership fee will buy you discounted services from a local dentist participating in your plan. You pay at the time of service, and no claims are required.
